Presidential Highlights:
· Approved the First Bank of the United States

· Ordered the U.S. Army to the Northwest Territory; they defeated the Indians and gained control of the Ohio Territory

· Led federal troops into Pittsburgh and put down the Whisky Rebellion (revolt against national tax on whiskey), making the point that federal laws supersede all others

· Approved the Jay Treaty (established commercial trade relations with British Canada), ending the "cold war" with Britain

· Approved the Treaty of San Lorenzo with Spain (settled Mississippi’s boundaries), which gave America free rights of travel and commerce along the Mississippi River

· Approved the first U.S. naturalization law (lengthened residency requirements for citizenship from two to five years)
