Presidential Highlights:
· Approved the creation of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (insures bank deposits).

· Approved the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration (provided public-works jobs for the unemployed).

· Approved the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Rural Electrification Administration (provided electricity to various areas of the country).

· Approved the Agricultural Adjustment Acts (provided cash subsidies to farmers).

· Approved the Wagner Act (created the National Labor Relations Board, forced companies to bargain with unions).

· Established the National Recovery Administration (reduced competition in the economy, increased corporate cooperation) which was later declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

· World War II. On December 7, 1941, Japanese war planes attacked the U.S. Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. President Roosevelt requested a congressional declaration of war. By January of 1945, the United States had emerged victorious over Germany and Japan.

· Died of natural causes one month into his fourth term in office.
