Presidential Highlights:
· Approved the Immigration Act (reduced the number of Italians, Greeks, Jews, and Poles allowed to enter the United States, and banned Japanese immigration).

· Vetoed a bill that would have provided life insurance for World War I veterans. Congress overrode his veto.

· Signed two tax bills (cut taxes on personal, inherited, and corporate income) which caused increased investment in the stock market. The value of stocks rose sharply.

· Approved the Air Commerce Act (allowed the Commerce Department to regulate U.S. airline companies).

· Vetoed legislation that created a new federal corporation authorized to buy and sell excess farm commodities.

· Approved the Kellogg-Briand Pact (renounced war as a means of settling conflict, encouraged countries to rely on diplomatic negotiations to resolve disputes).
