Presidential Highlights:
· Vetoed an immigration bill that would have placed a 20-year ban on all Chinese immigration to the United States. He later signed a second bill which placed a 10-year ban on all Chinese immigration to the United States.
· Wanted to improve the navy. Founded the Naval War College, upgraded military ships, and purchased the United State's first steel-hulled ships.
